Company Background
Rubicon Water was formed in 1995 by water engineers David Aughton, Tony Oakes, Bruce Rodgerson and Trevor Tennant, together with computer scientist Gino Ciavarella.
The directors brought together a wealth of industry experience and expertise in the fields of information and communications technology, software development, irrigation system operation, hydraulics, mechanical and electrical manufacturing, process control and water management.
Through their extensive experience within the water industry, the directors recognised the economic, social and environmental value of water. They believed that sustainable and efficient management of water was fundamental to the wellbeing of any nation.
From the outset Rubicon was focussed on developing innovative and technologically advanced water resource management solutions. Central to Rubicon's strategy was its substantial research and development program which remains a cornerstone of the company and continues to enable Rubicon to remain at the forefront of innovation in the sector.
Shortly after Rubicon's formation a series of droughts and water crises reinforced the importance of effective water resource management at a national level. More recently, the increased frequency and severity of drought events and climate variability in general, combined with the forces of population growth and economic development have elevated water security to a major international issue.
This growing awareness has led to interest in Rubicon's water management technology from all over the world.
Fundamental to efficient water resource management is the ability to accurately measure, monitor and control flows and these elements were central to the products and services Rubicon developed to meet the needs of the water industry.
Rubicon's solutions included the design and manufacture of highly engineered water control gates and precision water measurement instrumentation combined with wireless communications networks and advanced monitoring and control software - serving both the irrigation and municipal water industries.
A period of rapid growth saw the company restructured in 2003 as increasing global demand led the company to develop its international operations. Stan Wallis assumed the role of Chairman with Gordon Dickinson and Phil Harkness appointed as non-executive directors. The stewardship of the current directors has seen Rubicon develop into a global force in the fields of irrigation canal modernization and municipal water monitoring and control systems.
Rubicon's solutions have been widely adopted and its flagship irrigation canal management system - Total Channel Control® along with it's unique software, telemetry and water control gate components have been established as international industry benchmarks. Today Rubicon's technology is delivering resource efficiencies, greater responsiveness to customers, cost savings and improved environmental outcomes throughout the world.
